Overhaul Time of Screw Main Engine


Screw compressors are used in a wide range of applications, and regular maintenance of the compressor is a prerequisite for its proper operation. The mainframe is the core part of the compressor, which is operating at a high speed for a long period of time, similar to most operating machines, it must undergo preventive overhaul after a certain period of time or years of operation. The overhaul period is usually 30000 – 40000 hours (4-5 years). Most of the main engine overhaul will be returned to the factory for overhaul or sent to a qualified overhaul company for maintenance.

After a period of operation, the screw main engine may have the following problems :

  1. Gap increase

The distance between the male and female rotors of the main engine increases, resulting in the direct consequence that the leakage (i.e. back leakage) of the compressor increases in the process of compression, and the volume of compressed air discharged from the machine decreases, which is reflected in the reduction of the compression efficiency of the compressor in terms of efficiency.

  1. Increased wear and tear

As we all know, as long as the machine is in operation, there is wear and tear. Under normal circumstances, because of the lubrication of lubricating fluid, the wear and tear will be reduced a lot, but in long-term high-speed operation, the wear and tear will slowly increase.

  1. Deformation of parts

The main engine of air compressor is the core part of the compressor, its internal parts are in the environment of high temperature and pressure for a long time. With high-speed operation, there will inevitably be deformation of the parts on the long time process.

  1. Damaged parts

The main parts of the air compressor are : gaskets, seals, shaft seals and so on, especially the shaft seals, which in the environment of high temperature, high pressure and high-speed operation for a long time, its service life ratio is greatly shortened. The direct consequence of its damage is to cause the compressor to leak oil, if not detected in time, it will cause the male and female rotors and bearings to burn out due to lack of lubrication.
